MOPS Themes

Each year MOPS International has a theme all charter groups plug into. Our meetings will loosely revolve around this theme. We want to lift up your spirits, inspire you to persevere and together encourage each other to be the best moms we can be.

The MOPS theme for 2017-2018 is "Free Indeed"

What do you long for? What is the thing that your heart craves?
Is it possible that your deepest desire is to be free?
Free from worry.
Free from feeling stuck.
Free from hustling to be loved.
Free from a heaviness you can't put your finger on.
Free from thinking you should be someone other than exactly who you are.
At the core, maybe what we are all longing for is to be Free Indeed.

This year, we choose wild, unexpected freedom; the kind that brings more laughter and less worry, more contentment and less hustle. Freedom that is so contagious, the people around us are compelled toward their own liberation.

In order to unfold our wings this year, we will...

LET LOVE BE THE LOUDEST VOICE // Proclaim Favor
Sometimes, especially as moms with young kids, life can sneak up on us, and we don't realize that we have gotten stuck. Stuck in patterns of thinking, or habits that are holding us captive. This is the year that changes, this is the year we will stop settling for what simply gets us by and do the work to get to what's best. We will examine our worry and not believe everything we feel. We will parent with fresh perspective and will treat ourselves with tenderness, because love is the loudest voice we hear, and it is proclaiming freedom and favor.

BE GUTSY // Proclaim Release
Sometimes we don't take responsibility for our lives. We carry the weight of expectations, feeling out of control over the pace and trajectory of our days. Being gutsy is about realizing that you get to decide how busy you are, what you say yes to, what is best for your family, and what you make a priority in your mothering. This is the year of release from believing life has to look a certain way, and isn¡¦t there so much freedom and audacity in that? Your life can match your values and your passions, it will just take some guts to make it happen.

GO FIRST // Set Free
It is a fact that freedom is contagious. That is why we are choosing to go first in order to spark a revolution of women who are choosing freedom over fear. Going first is about being courageous enough to take steps before you are ready, to share the details of your journey, extend invitations, conquer fears, and lead the way for friends and kids and family. One of the best ways to advocate for others -  freedom is to go first ourselves, and then we can share with courage and honesty because we have found the keys that can set others free.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, he has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19

Previous Themes

The MOPS theme for 2016-2017 was "We are the Starry Eyed: A Year of Wonder Hope and Kindness".

Starry Eyed means looking for the light even when darkness is enveloping. It is an opportunity to hope recklessly and to witness God's presence guiding things seen and unseen, comfortable and uncomfortable. When we reflect back over our lives, this year is going to stand out. The best part is, we will experience it all together.

Starry Eyed is

  • Seeing the light in the darkness and choosing to live courageously in both.
  • It is opening our eyes to wonder and choosing hope over fear.
  • Starry Eyed is significant acts of kindness that send ripples of light into the world.
  • It is a choice to live fully and wholly and to breathe our way back to life.

If you feel anxious and don't know why
If you are busy and distracted from the things you truly care about
If you long to feel alive, to regain a sense of wonder, to hope a little freer and to be a powerful force of kindness in the world, then we'd love for you to join us in becoming Starry Eyed.

This year we will run wildly toward wonder, hope and kindness because We Are the Starry Eyed and we choose to see the light.

Thus says The Lord who made the Earth, The Lord who formed it to establish it ... Call To me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know" Jeremiah 33:2-3

The MOPS theme for 2015-2016 was "Fierce Flourishing"

Sometimes we need new eyes - a perspective shift that recalibrates our hearts to the rhythm of God's goodness surrounding us. We need to tune our hearts to better hear the music of the divine echoing throughout this world; that we might let that goodness seep into our bones and into our hearts so we can remember what it feels like to flourish. We think flourishing looks a lot like:

Celebrating Lavishly: Celebrating breathes life into our days. Could it be that commemorating moments might help us to become more alive, to remember what is good and become masterful at recognizing it? How would life change to regularly invite friends into our stolen moments with uninhibited dancing and the best food, while gathered around the biggest table with the deepest conversations? Lavish celebrations can be sacred markers that help remind us who we are.

Embracing Rest: Perhaps it is time to let go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as a measure of worth. What if one of the most life-giving activities that would contribute to our flourishing is welcoming rhythms of rest and play into our lives? Creating healthy rhythms in our life is one way we nourish the weary spots in our soul.

Noticing Goodness: Could it be possible that we don't need new things but rather new eyes to see what we already have? What if we regained our sense of vision, an acute resolve to find hope in the cracks and mire of the mundane? Noticing what is good gives us the gift of perspective and reminds us the sacred is closer than we think.

We become more ourselves when we celebrate, rest and notice, and that looks a lot like flourishing. This is a fierce flourishing. It is a deep-in-your-guts experience of gratitude and hope. It is a fierce protection of your most important moments, an invitation to rest and an opportunity to enjoy the people who are right in front of you.

This year at MOPS, may we become a home for found wanderers, redeemed prisoners, explorers at the edge of their comfort ¨Call of us who were one-time captives now celebrating our unearned freedom, because we have regained the eyes to see. May this year unfold into radical expressions of your own unique Fierce Flourishing.

For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12

The MOPS theme for 2014-2015 was "Be you, BRAVELY"

At any given moment in our lives each of us has¡

  • Conversations we've been putting off.
  • Reasonable risks we've been avoiding.
  • Goals we want to achieve.

Yet often times the more significant an action feels the easier it is to put it off. We get distracted from the big decisions by the immediate needs of the day. We spend all of our time doing two things - living and waiting to live. What all of us seem to have in common is that we need a nudge to help us get out of our ruts and routines so that we can begin risking bravely.

At MOPS we believe that you were meant to live deeply and so this theme was created to inspire you to choose the extraordinary. Be you, Bravely is designed to help us focus on making the choices that could create the most good in our lives, help us step into healthy risk and to do it in the context of community where we can cheer one another on.

Join us as we journey alongside you, asking one another what it means to "Be you, Bravely".

Theme Verse: Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

The MOPS Theme for 2013 ¨C 2014 was A Beautiful Mess: Embrace Your Story

Moms live in messes. The toys, crumbs, and spit-up are their natural surroundings. Moms often feel like a mess. They are exhausted, under-showered, and hormonal. Their past and present circumstances and decisions can leave them feeling inadequate for God's love and purposes.

A Beautiful Mess - reminds moms that beauty can come out of their difficult spots. The grime of mothering young children brings the beauty of motherhood. The bruises of life can bring God's redemption.

Embrace Your Story - reminds moms that their past, present and future can be used for good. God knows where each of us has been, where we are today and has set in motion where we are headed.

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

2012-2013 Theme was PLUNGE! Love as if your life depended on it

The emphasis is relationships and hope. MOPS aims to communicate a message of hope and create an atmosphere of supportive relationships that moms need to survive a world of constant change. Taking the plunge in relationships is being authentic and going deeper.

In a MOPS group, relationships offer hope to moms, especially as moms dive in and take risks to create authentic community. All facets of relationships can be strengthened through taking risks, going deeper and showing authentic love in neighborhood, friendships, marriages, extended families, the world around us, and ultimately relationship with God. Throughout the year, our group will focus on these different types of relationships and equip moms to be relationally healthy and thriving.

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.    ~ 1 Peter 4:8 - 11 (NLT)
