What is MOPS Beijing?
MOPS Beijing is the city's local chapter of Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS). We are a place for mothers of young children (from conception to five years) to connect, grow, share and have fun. As with MOPS International, we strive to impact and strengthen whole families by encouraging and empowering moms.

Meetings are broken up into four parts: social/refreshment, topical speaker session, activity/craft, and discussion group/sharing time. In addition, we also have a childcare program (MOPS KIDS) with babysitting for infants and  preschool aged children, so that they are also getting a chance to socialize and learn. Moms are welcome to attend without their children.

MOPS recently expanded its program to include mothers of primary-schoolers (age 6-12 years) whom we believe have similar needs - for community, connection and content.

MOPS Beijing is sponsored by the Beijing International Christian Fellowship (BICF).

When and where do you meet?
We meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10am to 12pm in the offices of the Beijing International Christian Fellowship (BICF), located at the 21st Century Hotel

How long has MOPS been going for?
MOPS as a global non-profit organization has been in existence for almost 40 years. The Beijing Chapter was started in September, 2012. This is the first time a MOPS group has met in Beijing.

Can any mother join? Is registration/membership required or is it open to the public?
Any mother with preschool aged children (conception to five years) is welcome to attend MOPS. If mothers plan to attend for the first time, we ask that they send us an email at mops(a)bicf.org to RSVP and also to reserve a spot for their child(ren). Moms are also welcome to attend without their children. MOPS is free for mothers, and childcare is free the first time you attend. There is a 30RMB charge for childcare for subsequent weeks.

MOPS recently expanded its program to include mothers of primary-schoolers (age 6-12 years) whom we believe have similar needs - for community, connection and content.

What are the goals of MOPS?
In Beijing, being a mother to children who are not yet in school can be a very isolating experience. We have seen time and again on Beijing's community forums instances of moms looking to connect both for their children's sake as well as their own. Our goal is to meet this need for community and companionship as well as empower moms to be better at what they do, relationally, spiritually and practically.

We do this by hosting speakers on various topics relevant to moms such as mothering, leading, nutrition, organization, mental health, relationships, finances and life balance. We also aim to have fun, through social time and crafts/activities. Although the Beijing International Christian Fellowship is our host, we seek to provide an atmosphere where any mom feels welcome and comfortable, whether she normally attends church or not.

What are some of the topics discussed at meetings?
The issues discussed at meetings aim to be both practical and uplifting. We encourage input from moms for future topics, but the format is a speaker followed by small group discussion, so topics are set in advance.

What is MOPS KIDS?
MOPS KIDS is our childcare program. We want to give moms a chance to have uninterrupted "me time" while the children are being safely cared for. We have babysitting for infants and toddlers, so that they are also getting a chance to socialize and learn. You can be sure your kid(s) will have a fun time while they are in MOPPETS.

Who runs MOPS?
MOPS Beijing is a volunteer-run group led by a steering team of mothers who all have preschool aged children. The steering team sets the theme and agenda for meetings and coordinates all aspects of the meetings. They are supported by dedicated mentor moms and volunteers.

Is MOPS Beijing affiliated with any particular organization?
MOPS Beijing is a charter group of MOPS International, a U.S. based non-profit organization that meets worldwide. The Beijing chapter of MOPS is sponsored by Beijing International Christian Fellowship.
